Everybody enjoys reading spooky horror stories and short stories of the same genre. There is a mix of emotions in each sentence that adds to the plot’s sinuous twists and turns. But what if I tell you I can freak you out with just two sentences? Here are 20 dark and scary two-sentence horror stories I’ve written. Best recommended reading them alone.

Reader, beware; you’re in for a scare!

– RL Stine.
DARK AND SCARY TWO-LINERS

  1. You should never be afraid of phantoms, just look for them everywhere. To your left, to your right, under your bed, and inside your closet—but never look behind you, because they hate being seen.
  2. It was your first day working as your office’s night CCTV security guard. And that was your last day, too—after you saw a face staring at the security camera from the cellar when you were alone.
  3. “Your grandmother’s soul will always keep watching you, beta,” his mother told him. Six years hence, she still continues to watch him from the corner of his bedroom every night.
  4. You study hard for your Math exam tomorrow. The first question on your question paper the next day is about Quantum Physics.
  5. Your friend truly loved sleeping. That’s why he never woke up.
  6. Somebody knocks on your bedroom window every night. You live on the 10th floor.
  7. You are standing on the footboard (edge) of a local running train. You lose your grip on the rod suddenly, and your foot slips.
  8. You look into your car’s rearview mirror and see your bestie smiling from the backseat. He died a year ago in a car accident.
  9. You wash your face in the basin and look up at the mirror. Your reflection is smiling, although you aren’t.
  10. “Finally, my homework is done!” you cheer. You turn the page, only to realize it’s double-sided.
  11. YouTube recommended you a video today. It was of you sleeping the night before.
  12. It was a year since you moved into your new house. And you’ve closed more doors than you’ve opened.
  13. You wish good night to your mom sleeping beside you before going to sleep yourself. When you turn around, you see her standing in the doorway—staring at your bed open-eyed.
  14. The last man on Earth heard a knock on his bedroom door. I repeat, the last man.
  15. They told me it was a corpse of a man. Why did I see him wink at me, then?
  16. You keep your hand under the bed to find your missing sock. But you feel another hand instead.
  17. For a split second, she felt the barrel against her head. It was only before the trespasser did the worst thing possible: he didn’t pull the trigger.
  18. You were just playing with the toy gun you borrowed from your father without his knowledge. Soon there are multiple dead bodies lying around you.
  19. You wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. When you return, you find a duplicate of you sleeping on your bed.
  20. You finally finish writing your horror story and type “The End.” The keys weigh by themselves on your keyboard, adding the phrase “is coming soon…”

BONUS (a three-liner):

  • You are injured in a car accident due to a careless cab driver. There is nobody to help you, so you walk home to find your parents crying over a familiar body outside the house. You speak to them, but neither could they hear your voice nor could you touch them.
