Noah sat on his sofa, doing multitasking work of both sipping coffee and watching YouTube on his mobile. Nothing in the world bothered him in the late afternoons—not even his work. As the afternoon seemed to pass peacefully as usual, his mobile went off. All of a sudden!
Noah seemed startled. “What the…” He tapped on the screen several times.
No response.
He long pressed the power button.
Still no effect.
He tried to charge his phone by plugging in the charger.
No result.
A few tense, unsure seconds passed. Noah’s mobile had never gone off in such a way. “I think there’s some problem elsewhere my mobile…”
He looked up. All this minute, he hadn’t noticed that the room had become way darker than before. The tube light went off, so did the AC. Worse than all, the light of his Wi-Fi router went off too!
“Oh god, a power cut!”
There hadn’t been a power cut in his house in the afternoons, thus Noah felt it weird. He got back to his sofa, turned the mobile data in his phone, and resumed watching the videos again.
A few minutes later, Noah found that his battery is about to go off. And then, his mobile data went off too!
He hadn’t guessed that the communication towers would go off, meaning that there could be no phone calls, not even emergencies!
Noah immediately tried to open a few offline apps. No, they weren’t working. His phone was nothing but an expensive toy phone at present!
Noah walked up to his window and looked down at the road. There were people everywhere, looking at their phones with perplexity and annoyance, walking around to get a signal on their phone.
For Noah’s house was on the first floor, he overheard a gang of teenagers speaking that there was a big crash in the main intersection. Yes, the traffic lights have stopped indefinitely, for they use electricity. And the drivers already on the roads were confused, leading to accidents.
After hearing this, Noah decided to stay home for the moment.
It had been 6 hours since the electricity had disappeared. Noah decided that other than waiting, it would be better if he has a warm, nice bath. He turned on the tap, but there isn’t any water coming through. No flush either. True as it is, the public services like plumbing, cooling, and heating went off too!
Noah felt a rush of anxiety. A situation like this was way worse than just losing lights, particularly when it’s extended. He came out of the bathroom and looked through the window again. The city was darker than it ever was. There were dimly lit candles in the windows of other houses, just like it was in Noah’s. People clearly started appreciating the moon and stars more, for their glow was much when there was no electricity at all.
Three days later – The traffic jams have increased a lot, with everyone ready to get out of the city. The foods in the refrigerator having long reached the point of no return, making Noah throw all of them out. The food production from the companies has stopped as the machines need electricity to work. Garbage of spoiled stuff started to pile up with the food in grocery stores decreasing considerably, resulting in food scarcity.
Seven days later – All the airports have closed. The shortage of food resulted in famine and the crime rate has picked up too, for a hungry man would eventually turn into an angry man. And the world economy saw a drastic decrease over no time.
Fourteen days later – Panic starts. A lot of people have begun to take down the last foods from the local stores, for they really required the bottled water.
Noah at this point resolves to get out of the city. He couldn’t fly, of course, all the airports have shut down. Thankfully, he had a bit of gas left in his car. There were thousands of people on the roads, everyone set to get out of the town like Noah. He finally had to spend another whole day to depart.
Twenty-one days later – In the city, the rats and other animals hiding in their house came out. The city is theirs now! But it was a good thing Noah chose to get out before.
He sought his uncle and aunt in the village for help. A city-lived man like Noah now had to help around the home shed and worked physically for food rather than giving money like he previously used to.
Twenty-eight days later – People now use water from wells. And thanks to the agriculture and fishing practices, everyone stays fed. With not much use of money, people have also started to trade every small thing. Despite everything, there is still a cry for electricity.
A month later – Light appears… yes, electricity! In a nutshell, everyone started to live like how humans did before there ever was electricity. And now came back the electricity! Everyone in the world rejoiced to celebrate this event with huge parties…!
Conclusion – In short, a man would be helpless without electricity for a whole month. A lot of modern things would no longer be available, creating a hard life for everyone. Speaking of the advantages, it’s probably just that everyone will get a break from the life of electronics and get to feel the natural world. And also probably that we all can get breaks from schools and colleges (just kidding!)
